Frosty February Wedding: Frances + Dustin

When couples ask our Iceland Wedding Planner team the best time to come for snowy landscapes, our answer is always February.  Likely because here in the South, and specifically in Vik (the Southern most town) it is the best chance versus the other regions.  Planning a February wedding in Iceland means though you do need to be prepared for insane weather like ice, snow, blizzards, rain, and even gale for wind storms.  But the crisp air, snow-dusted landscapes, and the sense of exclusivity that comes with a winter adventure more than make up for it!  Then add in a Leap Year twist of 2024, and you’ve got the kind of epic love story that is absolutely destined for fairytale status!  Which is exactly why Frances and Dustin embraced every frosty, windswept, and wildly romantic moment of their Iceland February wedding and frankly we’re still swooning over it…

A Leap Year “I Do!”

First, Frances and Dustin chose February 29th 2024, Leap Day for their Iceland wedding date.  Truly making their vows extra rare and meaningful!  Because a Leap Year February wedding only comes around once every four years, making this love story even more unique.  Second, the morning begins well before sunrise with the couple getting ready separately as our hair and makeup team perfected Frances’ look.  Third, all of the details like wedding dress and groom details were carefully captured too.  Fourth, just before the group grab their go bags and load into the super jeeps, the soon to be newlyweds shared a sweet first look in their hotel room.

February Wedding Ceremony

Next, Dustin and Frances’ February wedding ceremony took place at a secluded Icelandic waterfall.  Arriving here left their guests in complete awe!  A magical place they have never seen before, all to their selves!  Additionally, their fabulous 8 guests got to witness the snowy silence and blue skies that made the perfect backdrop.  After exchanging vows and rings the newlyweds celebrated with a kiss!  Later, our Pastor blessed their marriage with a powerful Icelandic prayer.

Frosty Waterfall Wedding Photos

Following their Iceland February wedding ceremony, Frances and Dustin enjoyed exploring the private property waterfall from the base and top with our local Iceland wedding photographer.  Meanwhile, the views from the top of the waterfall had a prime view of the nearby glacier.

Icelandic Hot Dog BBQ Lunch, Fermented Shark and Shots of Black Death!

More often than not, couples wish to experience Icelandic cultural traditions with their guests.  To illustrate, two of our favorite lunch experiences is a traditional hot dog BBQ and a tasting of fermented shark with shots of Brennivín (aka Black Death).  What a surprise to the guests of this adventurous February wedding in Iceland!

Romantic Black Sand Beach Stroll

Meanwhile, no Iceland February wedding is without a walk on a black sand beach!  Therefore, next on their adventurous Iceland wedding itinerary Frances and Dustin embraced the chill and the drama of the coastline.  Also to their surprise there was an interesting attraction the ocean brought up days before… A whale.  Curious sight to see.  But after an invigorating ride down the beach, they strolled hand in hand as waves crashed nearby.  Windswept romantic moments, they’ll never forget!

Iceland Glacier Outlet Elopement Photography

One of the many highlights of Frances and Dustin’s leap year February wedding day, was a visit to a glacier outlet.  The pair said goodbye to their family shortly before so they could delight in a piece of the day alone.  And what better place than at a glacier where nature puts on its most dramatic show…  Jagged ice, surreal textures, and the sense of being at the edge of the world or even on another planet made for stunning Iceland elopement photography.  For instance, raw, real, and super romantic!

Champagne in a Hammock in an Ice Cave!

Why yes… You can absolutely sip champagne in a hammock inside an ice cave on your February wedding adventure!  Who’s in?  To illustrate, our Iceland Wedding Planner team set up a cozy, private celebration inside a sweet little ice cave.  After all, who freaking does that on their wedding day?!  Ummm, Frances and Dustin, thank you!  While sipping bubbly, the newlyweds soak in the beautiful view together!

Ice Arch and Sunset Vibes

During ice cave season in Iceland, which is formally between November – March there are several different types of ice caves that can be discovered.  In fact, Frances and Dustin were lucky enough on their February wedding adventure to be witness to two!  First they were in a tunnel and then they explored an ice arch area.  Furthermore, the ambiance from the approaching sunset really set the scene for gorgeous Iceland wedding photos!

Icelandic Sweater Reception

Following an adventurous wedding day, the couple and their guests had some time to rest and refresh.  Then they cozied up in traditional Icelandic sweaters and shared a semi private dinner together in the Southern countryside.  Next, the group ate together a three course plated meal together and ended the foodie experience with a kransakaka which is a traditional Iceland wedding cake.  But that’s not all…. Nighttime Wedding Photos on a Black Dessert

As night fell over a nearby Icelandic black volcanic desert, Frances and Dustin took one final set of portraits.  With lanterns in hand and stars above, these nighttime wedding photos captured the quiet intensity of their connection.  Pretty sure that Frances and Dustin would agree this is the perfect ending to a breathtaking February wedding in Iceland!
