Likely because their day explored areas of Iceland that most people even living here never ever get to experience. July 11th 2024 Vik Iceland
For their Vik elopement, Erin and Jake chose a cozy yet modern Vik-based hotel as their home base. To illustrate, the Vik Apartments offer the perfect mix of privacy meets luxury. Also, staying in the heart of Vík gave them easy access to our areas most breathtaking locations! Additionally offering the convenience of a comfortable retreat after their adventures. Many hotels in Vík feature floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean or mountain views, which is exactly the kind of romantic setting you want when waking up on your wedding day in Iceland. Am I right? After all, this is exactly why our #vikdreamhouse has floor to ceiling 180 degree views!
Now, their elopement began on a rainy July 11th 2024 morning. The pair had a cozy time getting ready within their luxury apartment while our Iceland Wedding Planner team catered to them in every way they needed. From the hair and makeup to the detail photos to even champagne to kick off the morning, they had it all! When the super jeep arrived the soon to be newlyweds grabbed their “go bags” and loaded into the truck to begin their elopement journey…
Private Black Sand Beach Wedding Ceremony
Next, Erin and Jake love love love and maybe borderline obsessed with black sand beaches! #ustoo! And one of our favorites is a private property beach tucked far away from the busy touristy spots. On this beach, there are incredible lava rock cliffs that showcase so much history! Afterall, there are few places in the world that are as dramatic as Iceland’s black sand beaches.
Our Iceland Wedding Planner couple, exchanged vows on this stunning private black sand beach surrounded by the sound of crashing waves and the endless expanse of the North Atlantic Ocean. One of things we love the most about this moment in time for Erin and Jake is that they were unapologetically themselves and did things they way they wanted… For example, Erin is 100% a stiletto gal and she rocked them like a BOSS on the beach before, during, and after their Vik elopement ceremony!
Vastness and Vows
Meanwhile, there is something incredibly symbolic about saying your vows against the backdrop of Iceland’s raw landscapes. So what did that mean for Jake and Erin? The newlyweds wanted to say their vows to each other by themselves, fully. Therefore, our Iceland Wedding Planning and Photography team took them to another private black beach where they stood on the lava rock cliffs.
Fair to say, standing on the windswept shore, the couple felt small in the face of such beauty. Which isn’t a fantastic feeling to have? For instance, the feeling of being part of something so much bigger? Yet, they would likely say, their love was the anchor in the vastness around them. Which is a perfect balance of vulnerability and strength is what also makes a Vik elopement oh so meaningful!

Waterfall Hike & Icelandic Hot Dog BBQ
After their intimate Vik elopement ceremony, the newlyweds laced up their boots for a sketchy hike to a hidden waterfall. In fact, the roaring cascade created a dramatic photo backdrop for them and our local Iceland Elopement Photographer while also giving them a chance to soak in Iceland’s wildly crazy beauty together. Additionally, this waterfall spot even came with a super cool natural cave to checkout!
In true Icelandic fashion, they capped off the return hike with an Icelandic hot dog BBQ. A super fun delicious fun, casual way to celebrate their marriage with this unforgettable lunch experience! Now hot dogs may sound simple, but in Iceland they’re a national treasure! Especially when enjoyed in nature with the person you love most.
Hiking to a Private Ice Cave in Iceland for Vik Elopement Photos
Next, pretty sure the highlight of their Vik elopement adventure was a guided hike to a private ice cave near Vik. Few couples can say they took wedding photos surrounded by shimmering blue ice walls. However, in Iceland, these unique experiences are part of what makes elopements so extraordinary!
With crampons on, the couple explored the glacier’s hidden corners. Further, their Iceland wedding photographer, captured jaw-dropping photos that will be treasured for a lifetime, truly! This is the kind of once-in-a-lifetime adventure that makes choosing a Vik elopement worth it, right?!

Plus, in July, the cliffs are alive with puffins nesting along the edges, which offers another layer to the journey…
