Snowy Highland Wedding: Rory + Bob

Transition times in the Icelandic highlands are twice a year.  Once between Spring and early to mid-Summer when the snow melts and the areas become accessible again.  And then again in the Fall when the rain and snow change the road conditions and transform the landscapes.  Personally, our Iceland Wedding Planner team believes fall time for a highland wedding is the most exciting!  Because of how different and dynamic the areas become.  Also, there is the added mystery on how thrilling the drive may be to get to the locations too!

Rory + Bob

One of the first words that comes to our mind when we think about Rory and Bob is #powercouple!  From their instant connection, determined personalities, compassion, thriving careers, their love for adventure, strategic risk taking, and adoration of unique experiences all being traits that make them an unstoppable pair!  In fact, this past summer these two decided to move across the world from Australia to Iceland for 6 months.  Furthermore, they also desired to get married in Iceland while they were here.  So come along as we share with you their incredibly eventful highland wedding adventure!!

Suits, Smiles, and Champagne!

The morning of October 1st 2021 was chockful of all the feels, as the grooms video chatted with their loved ones back home as they got ready.  Add in an endless supply of laughs, smiles, champagne, and they were off to a perfect start to their highland wedding!  Meanwhile, our Iceland elopement photographer captured all of their fabulous details as the sun began to rise.  After it was time for breakfast, get dressed, load into their ride for the day, which was a super jeep on 46” tires to embark on their highland wedding journey!

Subglacial Volcano Wedding Ceremony

Upon arriving to their highland wedding ceremony location, these two experienced the stimulating energy that comes along with a subglacial volcano area.  Maybe it’s the drastic contrasts or the thrill of an eruption being overdue, I don’t know!  But the area is very alive!!  Because glaciers are ever changing from day to day, the features you could get married in front of evolve.

Therefore on this fabulous day in October, getting married in the middle of a stunning ice valley was oh so picturesque!  First, the theme of fire and ice carried through the Pastor’s inspirational words.  Second, Rory and Bob proclaimed their unconditional love to each other through personal vows that were super inspiring!  Third, it was a surreal moment when they exchanged rings, smiles, and kisses!

Discovering an Ice Cave, Glacier Waterfall, and Epic Ice Formations!

Having time to explore the glacier area after your highland wedding is important!  After all, for some this is a once in a lifetime chance, so make sure you take it!  So when you explore an ice valley you’ll want to marvel over the different shapes the ice takes and how small you’ll feel standing next to them.  Additionally, other items you may want to lookout for are glacier waterfalls, ice caves, exploded ice (recently fallen) and crevasses.  Rory and Bob thoroughly enjoyed their time exploring this amazing area fully.

Snowy Highland Wedding Journey

Next, further on into the highlands the gents go!  When snow has already begun to fall in these uninhabited areas, it really becomes a well earned journey to get to certain places.  For example, it could take longer, other unique challenges could pop up, and weather changes quickly.  However, after their glacier elopement ceremony, the sun was abundant!  Also the landscapes somehow became more beautiful with the mix of lunar-like plus snow and the greens popping through as the snow melted in some spots.

Giant Iceland Waterfall

It’s no secret that our Iceland Wedding Planner team knows where all of the most amazing private waterfalls are.  And to get there we often have to forge unbridged rivers that many times has a glacier quick sand running through it!  But at the end of the day, the small element of danger goes away when you’re in capable hands.  Plus it’s worth it when you set your eyes on giant waterfalls like Bob and Rory discovered below!

October Elopement Photos in Iceland

People often ask what fall or specifically October can be like in Iceland.  Typically we vary between 34-41 degrees Fahrenheit.  But the sun, wind, or precipitation can make it feel warmer or colder.  And in the start of the month we have 11 hours of daylight however, by the mid to end it dwindles to 8 or less.  Therefore, these two newlyweds were extremely lucky to get literally the perfect fall highland wedding exploration day!

Icelandic Private Property Beach

During their planning time with our team, Rory and Bob really loved the private property side of Dyrhólaey Sea Arch Beach.  Because really who wouldn’t want to have this incredible beach all to themselves?!

Mountains and Mad Love

The love these two share is kinetic and frankly pretty damn uplifting to see in person!  Mix in some freaking magical mountains and sunset and you have the most EPIC and unforgettable scene!!

Nighttime Iceland Elopement Picnic

Don’t worry that wasn’t the end of their highland wedding adventure.  In fact, it continued into the night after a delicious dinner in Vik.  To illustrate, it was important to Rory and Bob that they share a sweet little picnic in one of our exclusive caves for their nightcap.  After all there just wasn’t enough time in the daylight to see it all!  Lastly, we finished the night in a big way with ground fireworks which turned into some amazing photos!

Overall, truly such an incredible day these two experienced for their elopement in Iceland!  Furthermore, check out Bob and Rory’s review too to hear their thoughts directly!  So if these newlyweds experience driven elopement in the Icelandic highlands has inspired you to craft something just as unique, feel free to contact us!
