A little over six years ago, Derek did just that with Abbie.  They bonded quickly over their combined love of being outside, experiencing nature, learning about different cultures, international travel, and being foodies.  Fast forward to Christmas time in NYC and add in a huge beautifully decorated tree, windows that overlook Central Park, champagne, and strawberries and you get the sweetest marriage proposal!  Abbie of course said “YES” and thus planning an adventurous elopement began!

Abbie and Derek were called to Iceland for a whimsical elopement because of the dynamic landscape and to quench their thirst for epic travel experiences.  They yearned for an adventure wedding day that was laid back, offbeat, secluded, intimate, and most importantly PRIVATE.  They came to the right place when they came to us here at Iceland Wedding Planner!  They were married on August 5th in the heart of the Icelandic summer and throughout all of their locations (minus the quick stop at Reynisfjara) they saw zero people!  How special, personal, and memorable is that?!

You know there is a green here in Iceland that exsists nowhere else?

The textures and tones in the caves here in Iceland are unbeatable!

There are endless amounts of super green canyons here in Iceland and we find the greenest and the sweetest!

As most of you hopefully know by now, it may rain on your Iceland wedding day, but don’t worry we still make it super fun!  Derek and Abbie just grabbed our awesome clear umbrellas and played in the rain!

True to the  unpredictably of Icelandic weather… The rain stopped as quick as it started!

Firm believers in that statement, Rachel and John reached out to us, days after the proposal.  They were crazy excited to book their Iceland engagement session in this stunning landscape.  They then embarked on a super fun photo adventure with us in our 4×4, totally ready to hike to some offbeat locations for amazing views and incredible photo ops!

These two hiked to a secret little waterfall that morning and stole oh-so many kisses along the way!

Swoon!  That moment where the path takes you to rainbow and a mini waterfall you can walk behind! ?

During an adventure wedding in Iceland, our couples and their guests more often than not, have 3 pairs of shoes on hand… Hiking Boots, Waterproof tall boots, and Iceland wedding reception dress shoes.

K+A were most intrigued by a traditional Asatru Iceland wedding ceremony. Their Iceland wedding ceremony was dreamy on that beach!

After the beautiful beach above, we showed this fab duo a secret cave that had the most amazing outlook!

This amazing elopement happened on the longest day of the year here in Iceland, and oh boy did we take advantage of it and this couple hit a new record of locations we adventured to… 12!

There are never any “rules” during our Iceland adventure wedding days, so if you feel cold or want to change part way through the day into hiking gear, do it!

Do you ever get those?

Living in Iceland, I get them a lot when I ice climb, hike, SUP, and of course while scouting secret Iceland wedding locations.  But on Iceland wedding days, it’s somehow amplified.  No joke!  I almost hyperventilated in excitement over the below image.  Right light, right mountain, and what an amazing couple!  When all of those elements come together my mind is blown!

Cross those fabulous things with adding in some epic Icelandic wildlife and this Iceland elopement went off the charts!  Do you see the sneaky little seal who photo-bombed the Iceland wedding ceremony?

Another thing that makes me smile during an Iceland wedding photo adventures, is surprising my clients with new super secret waterfalls.  These two didn’t even bat an eyelash when I told them the hike time!  ? ? ?

When you have an early April wedding in Iceland (which this fab couple did) you can usually expect some snow still lingering (unless we’ve had a more wet than snowy winter).  This often times adds to the dramatic landscape giving you the vibrant greens, browns, and whites like the beautiful below Iceland elopement wedding portrait!

You could spend days driving through these magical fjords adventuring!  Very easily, you could spend a day discovering the beautiful beaches within the Westfjords such as the beautiful Rauðisandur golden sand beach.  Waterfall hunting as an additional day is so much fun!  Then heading to the High North area of the fjords hiking and bird watching around the cliffs of Bolafjall.

Hot spring and warm geothermal pools are throughout the Western Fjords as well, ready to be discovered by you!  Yet another day, can be spent exploring the many fishing villages throughout the area such as the Djupavik herring factory ruins or the famed village of Ísafjörður!  Do you remember the amazing hotel we featured a few years ago that is tucked within that amazing little town?  If you cannot recall, feel free to back here to explore that Iceland wedding post!

One of the many waterfalls found within Iceland’s Westfjords is the famed, Dynjandi Waterfall.  There are many levels of the waterfall you can explore so take your time to discover every inch!  Maybe even plan a picnic?  The view from the midpoint and the top of the waterfall is quite unforgettable too!

The days I have spent running around the Westfjords, I have been lucky enough to stumble upon several secret waterfalls we would love to share with you as a possible Iceland wedding locations!  …Think: Just the two of you and countless sheep as your audience as you say your memorable Iceland wedding vows to each other! <3

I usually get an email every month from a couple wondering if they can hold their Iceland wedding or elopement in a castle… I sadly always have to respond letting them know there are no castles in Iceland (and maybe they should try Scotland).  But!  There is a gorgeous ruin of an old farm house that resembles the closest thing to a “Castle” in Iceland.

The second half of their romantic Iceland elopement brought not one, but TWO dreamy waterfalls, majestic mountains, Iceland’s most powerful subglacial volcano, and a cliff line view that cannot be replicated anywhere, seriously!  So all that being said, I must warn you… there will be lots of SWOONING ahead so watch out!

Right from the very beginning of contacting me, Sarah let me know that as a couple they value: Travel & Adventure. …heck yes, our ideal clients!

They chose to forgo a local wedding in their home state so they could turn their focus fully to each other and go on an adventurous day the two of them would remember forever.  Can I get an “Awwww” folks?!  Serious sweetness.  Their intentions were pure, passionate, and they were absolutely at home in the dramatic Icelandic landscape during their elopement adventure.

Don’t be fooled by the image header of captivating blue skies… Their summer Iceland wedding day went like this: Drizzle -> Rain -> Downpour of Rain -> Overcast -> Partly Sunny -> Steady Light Rain -> Blue Skies -> Cloudy -> Rain.  Sounds about right for a 17 hour adventure wedding day in Iceland!  But don’t worry, we have THE BEST clients!  …because these two just embraced and rolled with the unpredictability as you will see =)
