Photographing Fall weddings in Iceland are hands down my favorite.  September often ushers in brisker temperatures and Northern Lights.  While the land stays green until mid October as the bushes and ground cover transition to shades of red, orange, and yellow.  As if it was possible, the landscapes somehow become more alive.  Fall is an incredible time to hold your Iceland wedding day or have Iceland wedding photos taken!

Kristi and Luke reached out to us over 19 months before their desired Iceland wedding date seeking a unique destination wedding experience for them and their 40+ Iceland wedding guests.  Their fab wedding was also featured on one of my favorite blogs: Jet Fete, go them out for some more photos!  In the meantime I hope you’re excited to tag along with us today and experience their Iceland wedding day!

When Kristi and Luke originally reached out to us, they felt a connection to having their Iceland wedding ceremony at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall.  A Note to You, the Reader: Since I began my business here in 2012, the amount of tourism has exponentially increased (more than doubled every year) and Seljalandsfoss no longer exudes privacy or intimacy for a wedding ceremony. That said, after reviewing some other secret waterfalls we presented, Kristi + Luke fell in love with this intricate gem to start their Iceland wedding day!

Ugh! These TWO! And their little looks at each other throughout their Iceland wedding day kept me swooning!

Still wanting their guests to experience the incredible beauty of Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, we had a quick stop for a glass of champagne to toast the newlyweds on their Iceland wedding day!

Iceland Wedding Planner does not typically go to the iconic natural wonder landmarks (we rather keep to our secret/private locations), but at a client’s request we happily include.  Because where else in the world do you have the chance to experience dynamic beaches like this?!  Reynisfjara, you never disappoint!

Connecting the outside to the inside of your Iceland wedding reception really adds to the experience.

When we started talking Iceland wedding reception decor design, Kristi wanted to have a warm inviting element added.  Our creation was this bubble wall that sat directly behind the bride and groom!  How fun!

Oh la la and when the bubbles were lit they were GORGEOUS!

Mmmmm…. Iceland wedding FOOD! Yum yum yum!

Kristi and Luke were looking for a unique alternative to having a traditional “guestbook” signing to display at their Iceland wedding reception.  This was SUCH a fun option!  They took one of our images we’ve shot, enlarged it and had their guests inscribe a memory!

So now that I have you on the edge of your seat, the story goes like this… Katie and Joe boarded a plane leaving Istanbul going to Dushanbe and were surprisingly plane seat mates.  After several amazing moments talking through the overnight flight they decided they needed to have an official “first date” upon landing.  Both having a deep desire for adventure, outdoors, and hiking, they found themselves bonding while on a 4,000 feet hike up the Laylakul Pass.

Can much even top that first meeting and first date?  Um, yeah somehow Joe + Katie topped it.  When Katie’s plans to go to Kyrgyzstan didn’t pan out, they met in Cappadocia and Joe surprised her with an all-day adventure and an unforgettable hot air balloon ride!  Swoon! Swoon! Swoon!!

So happily ever after begins then, right?  Wrong!  After countless adventures in the following years, they settled on having an incredible elopement in Iceland!  So how where they going to top their daily lives and previous adventures with an elopement?  By hiring us of course!  We are the one and only skillful and experienced providers of Iceland adventure weddings in secret offbeat locations.  ….oh oh and we came up with an EPIC Iceland wedding adventure for these two!  I invite you to come along with me today as I share with you their unforgettable Iceland elopement.

When a bride asks me, “Ann, is it a good idea for me to have two wedding dresses and a cute coat?”  My response is always YES!  I love having options and I love that a bride is fearless too, to run around in her wedding dress with no inhibitions.

Hello waterproof boots!  You are a bride’s best friend during an adventure wedding in Iceland!  Did you know Hunter Boots make all kind of crazy cute colors too?

Katie and Joe, chose to have a “first look” and exchange sweet little cards with each other at the hotel before beginning their Iceland wedding adventure!

More often than not, our adventure weddings in Iceland require a hike or a fun river crossing like this!  Katie made it look easy!

The river crossing and the hike was worth it to get to this amazing ice cave spot for the Iceland wedding ceremony!

A little after the sun started peaking over the mountains is when we began the Iceland elopement ceremony.  It was beautiful spiritual ceremony led by my favorite Iceland wedding pastor in front of a huge ice cave wall.

Once the Iceland wedding ceremony was complete, it was time to begin the exploration adventure around this amazing area!  Oh oh and of course take amazing Iceland wedding portraits too

During summer in Iceland, ice caves are not typically stable enough to go into safely.  No worries, there are tons of other amazing Iceland wedding portrait spots around!  The magnitude and the power in this area always leaves me in awe, hope you see why!

After we left the glacier area, we ventured on to one of my new favorite secret spots!

Lunch time came quick!  We decided to stop at a gorgeous private black sand beach to have an Icelandic hot dog BBQ! Yum!

We leave the beach and go to another amazing glacier area?!  Hell yes!  On with the Iceland elopement adventure for more awesome discoveries!

One of the really special things about having a wedding in Iceland is the fact that you can encounter so many natural wonders in one day.  Which allows your awesome Iceland wedding photographer to capture really dynamic images of you near them!

An Iceland elopement would not be complete without having a beautiful cliff view and a cuddle.

We are constantly on the hunt for new secret spots for our Iceland weddings and this is one of our latest faves.  I mean come on, look at those pretty mountains!

I love love love caves and am a constant seeker of them.  Katie and Joe humored me with a quick stop to this gorgeous one for an Iceland wedding portrait!

After all of those epic spots, we didn’t have one waterfall!  …unless you count the mini waterfalls coming off the holes in the glacier?!  Anyhow, we did for sure have to include one!  These two had this waterfall to themselves on their Iceland wedding day!

Dinner at one of my favorite restaurants concluded their epic Iceland wedding adventure, but not before some sweet sunset photos!

A little over six years ago, Derek did just that with Abbie.  They bonded quickly over their combined love of being outside, experiencing nature, learning about different cultures, international travel, and being foodies.  Fast forward to Christmas time in NYC and add in a huge beautifully decorated tree, windows that overlook Central Park, champagne, and strawberries and you get the sweetest marriage proposal!  Abbie of course said “YES” and thus planning an adventurous elopement began!

Abbie and Derek were called to Iceland for a whimsical elopement because of the dynamic landscape and to quench their thirst for epic travel experiences.  They yearned for an adventure wedding day that was laid back, offbeat, secluded, intimate, and most importantly PRIVATE.  They came to the right place when they came to us here at Iceland Wedding Planner!  They were married on August 5th in the heart of the Icelandic summer and throughout all of their locations (minus the quick stop at Reynisfjara) they saw zero people!  How special, personal, and memorable is that?!

THIS Iceland wedding dress was fabulously not traditional and I LOVED IT!  Abbie also took our Iceland wedding shoe advice and came fully equipped with 2 sets of perfect shoes!

Abbie’s Iceland wedding bouquet is also on my top 5 list for this year!  The perfect romantic combination!

There are endless amounts of super green canyons here in Iceland and we find the greenest and the sweetest!

As most of you hopefully know by now, it may rain on your Iceland wedding day, but don’t worry we still make it super fun!  Derek and Abbie just grabbed our awesome clear umbrellas and played in the rain!

True to the  unpredictably of Icelandic weather… The rain stopped as quick as it started!

#EasyButton- Totally what we, here at Iceland Wedding Planner specialize in!  We delivered a 16 hour adventurous Iceland wedding day and throughout the day we saw 0 tourists (and it was the 28th of May!).  How did we do that?  Because our locations are offbeat, exclusive, and most times private, which then translates to you as an unforgettable wedding EXPERIENCE in Iceland, not just a wedding day.

One of the beautiful things (and sometimes challenging) about Iceland is the ever changing weather conditions.  You must embrace this.  For Britt + James, playing in the rain during their Iceland elopement was part of the exciting wedding day journey!

Pretty sure, these two will also go down as one of the most adventurous couples, EVER.  Have you ever seen a bride climb a glacier in a wedding dress?  …I mean like the whole gamut -crampons and ice picks?!  Brittany, had no fear and she conquered that glacier.  After their glacier expedition, they had a BBQ in an ice cave…. Who does that?! Our kickass Iceland wedding couples, that’s who!

One of my favorites from Britt + James romantic Icelandic elopement was this quite moment they shared in a gorgeous canyon.

Okay, so maybe I lied, I also REALLY SWOONED when I witnessed the beautiful stolen kisses in front of this waterfall too!

There were so many amazing images from their elopement in Iceland, it was frankly hard to choose some to share with you today!  But, I tried- so enjoy!

The day… Let me take you back to that wonderful summer day in Iceland, we’ll fondly call, Tanabata.  What is that, you ask?  If you’re familiar with Asian customs, you might have heard of the inspiring “Star Festival” which is a legend that allows two lovers to meet in the Milky Way for only one day a year, which is on the seventh day of the seventh month… July 7^th.  It’s lucky, it’s beautiful, it’s romantic, and it frankly gives me goosebumps.  Plus who doesn’t want an epic date for their wedding day, am I right?

My Iceland Adventure Weddings always begin before 7am so we can lead a very action packed 16+ hour day.  After all it’s Your Adventure Wedding, right? =)  We were out the door of Hotel Ranga and on our way to one of my favorite private waterfalls in Iceland via super jeep.  D+G “Ooooo, and ahhhhh” over the epic blue skies, lushness, and splendor of this private super-secret waterfall.  The day carried on to a luxurious and very romantically styled picnic on the side of what could be one of Iceland’s most powerful subglacial volcanos.  So exciting!  A wickedly awesome drive through some of Iceland’s sweetest canyons and then on to one of our last stops was a gorgeous black sand beach that had amazing basalt columns protruding from the North Atlantic Ocean.

Upon returning to Hotel Ranga, the couple was greeted with a stunningly styled (by us, Iceland Wedding Planner of course) intimate Iceland wedding reception for two overlooking the beautiful Ranga River.  Accoutrements included connections to nature within the rock centerpieces, organic salt Iceland wedding favors, an elegant Iceland wedding menu card, and flasks that said, “The Adventure Begins…”  A luxury elopement in Iceland screams details.  That’s just what this fabulous couple received!  As the sun began to set after dinner, we headed back out to a sweet little sod farm for a few more images ending our adventure just after midnight!

A remarkable couple plus an extraordinary day, surely equals mesmerizing Iceland wedding photos, as you’ll see below compliments of Photos by Miss Ann!  Enjoy!!

Bethany and Richard from Chicago, Illinois embraced these ideals from the very beginning of their Iceland wedding planning escapades. When Bethany first emailed me she said, “The thing that struck me was how much the ruggedness and sheer beauty of the landscape complemented the couples in your photos.  We want to have a strong sense of place in our wedding and be surrounded by nature.” Then we Skyped… Um yeahhhhhh no brainer, I want you as my clients! Your wish is my command my dear!

When we set out to plan their fabulous wedding day in Iceland we had the opportunity to incorporate some ethnic dynamics such as a Chinese Tea Ceremony, family style story-telling, and Iceland inspired party favors at their wedding reception.

Bethany and Richard fell in love with holding their Iceland wedding ceremony at the legendary Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and so we did… Around 9am on a fabulous April morning, all of the guests began their Icelandic adventure wedding day from Vik and headed east for a thrill-seeking day of sunshine, hiking, and being awed by the vivid landscapes! Upon arrival to the lagoon, the excitement between the bride and groom was infectious and you could not keep your eyes off of them! They delighted in a beautiful Iceland Humanist wedding ceremony where they spoke their own vows to each other, ended with a sweet kiss in front of the floating icebergs and a rose petal toss in celebration!

Two super-secret waterfalls were next on their Iceland wedding adventure agenda and they were stunning as you will see from the gorgeous images from Photos by Miss Ann, below. The travel part of journey ended at the dramatic Reynisfjara black sand beach basalt columns and boy was it a lovely wave-crashing snow filled ending! After arriving back to the hotel, the guests freshened up and came downstairs to Richard and Bethany’s exquisitely set Iceland wedding reception! Thrilled you stuck with us through our little blogging break =) We have been going a million miles an hour photographing some amazing Iceland weddings, finishing up wedding details for our remaining 2014 fabulous couples, and excitedly planning with our 2015 & 2016 couples.

Beth Golden, has a decade worth of experience in the industry and has proved to be a positive asset to our growing team. Her vision, creativity, attention to details is remarkable. Frankly she is our right arm in day of organization, so we can focus on you and capturing your amazing wedding moments in Iceland! As I am sure you know the enthusiasm never ends around here and Beth fits right in. So please warmly “Welcome” her to the Iceland Wedding Planner team!

As promised, today begins several extraordinary posts we will be sharing with you and all will surely make you swoon in envy! First series that is up is Atlanta, Georgia couple: Kim + Chris. I have 100’s of “favorite” images and have decided I don’t want to blow up one blog post with them, so we’re going to break up their adventurous Iceland wedding day into several pieces so we can all savor it and take notes! Can I let you in on a little secret? Summer Iceland weddings rock; there is nothing better than having the option of getting married at 6am or 11pm and holding a crazy epic adventurous wedding day under the midnight sun. Sooo… After driving 85km west in Southern Iceland on Sunday, June 22nd, it was time to get married!  Kim and Chris met their Icelandic pastor, on the shores of Reynisfjara Beach (sometimes people refer to it as Vik Beach).

They walked happily hand in hand to the basalt rock cave (Hálsanefshellir Cave) and held their spiritual Iceland wedding ceremony inside. Kim and Chris declared their love to each other by simply stating, “I promise to always love you more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.”  [Swoon!] The bride was so happy she shed a couple of joyful tears and the pastor immediately gave them both the biggest hug ever!  We popped a bottle of Domaine Chandon and served the bride and groom several tasty Icelandic baked goods to start the celebration right then, right there.

It was stunning in every way… and did I mention blue skies were abound? Yup, that always seems to happen for every wedding we photograph in Iceland, no matter the season =) Chris and Kim drank their bubbles, laughed, smiled and frolicked throughout the beach giving us tons of amazing opportunity’s for unforgettable Iceland wedding photos! So today, please delight in the beginning of their fabulous adventure: Chris and Kim’s Iceland destination wedding ceremony…

Kim and Chris,

You give me goose bumps, that simple. The love you exude for each other made me cry with joy and I am not a crier, ever. You are soul mates and no one can deny it when they see you together. It was such an honor to design such a monumental day from start to finish for you both and being the lucky one, who got to photograph it too. Thank you for choosing me!
